Ladakh Cutural Tour (15Nights/16Days)

Day 01 Arrive Delhi.

Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel.

DELHI: one of India's fastest growing cities has spread far beyond the "seven cities" created between the 13th and the 17th centuries. It has sprawled over the west bank of the Yamuna and now straddles the river. Remnants of the past survive cheek -by-jowl with skyscrapers, residential colonies and bustling commercial complexes. Delhi has some of the finest museums in the country. Its boutiques and shopping arcades offer access to a wealth of traditional and contemporary crafts from all over the country. It has speciality restaurants to please the gourmet, open parks and gardens ablaze with flowers, and in the winter months particularly, a variety of cultural events. Its many-layered existence is tantalizing and can entice the curious traveler into a fascinating journey of discovery.

Day 02 In Delhi

Full day city tour of Delhi visiting imposing modern Lakshminarayan temple, Raj Ghat (memorial to Mahatma Gandhi), Drive past the India Gate (war memorial dedicated to the lives of laid down by the Indian soldiers), the president's residence - formerly the Viceroy's Palace, parliament House and the Secretariat buildings, - an interesting blend of the Victorian and 20th century architecture. Visit the 12th century Qutab Minar, gracefully hand-carved for its entire height of 234ft, and the iron pillar, which has withstood the ravages of time and not rusted even after 1500 years. Visit the mausoleum of emperor Humayun - a forerunner of the Mughal style of architecture.

Day 03 Delhi- Leh

Early morning we transfer to the airport to connect flight to Leh, the capital of Ladakh,

LEH: The Leh city is covered by ancient Buddhist monuments, Mosques dating back to 16th and 17th centuries and a nine storied palace Sengge Namgyal constructed in Tibetan architectural style. Leh is the land of Lamas, the Buddhist Monks and is mainly populated by Buddhists and Hindus. Leh houses numerous Buddhist monuments, monasteries and study centers, Shanti stupa and Sankar Gompa are some of them. Leh is also famous as “Small Tibet”, lying at an altitude of 3500m in a fertile valley of the Indus river.

First half free for acclimatization.

After lunch drive to visit Shankar Gompa & Shanti Stupa. Shankar Gompa is little up in the valley, 3 Kms from Leh Town, which is open to visitors in the morning and evening only. The Gompa belongs to Yellow Sect & was founded in 18th Century. The Gompa is the seat of the Head Lama of Ladakh & founder of yellow sect, Tson-Kha-Pa. The temple walls have recent painted of figures including Sakyamuni, Avalokiteshwara, Padmasambhava, Tson-Ka-pa and green Tara. After Shankar, visit Leh Temple & Walk back to Leh Bazaar through the famous Leh Polo Ground.

Day 04 Opening ceremony of Ladakh Festival

Ladakh festival takes place in September 1-15 every year in Leh and villages. The inauguration ceremony takes place in Leh on large scale with the procession of various cultural troupes from different part of Ladakh. It passes through Leh Market dancing, singing with traditional music, in colorful traditional Ladakhi dresses, and finishes at Polo ground after performing their best dances and songs. The festival last for 15 days with regular program in different villages. The program includes Archery, Polo, and Mask Dances from the monasteries, traditional dances by cultural troupes from Villages. There are series of musical concert and dance program in Leh town.

Day 05 Stok Palace-Shey-Thiksey- Hemis monastery-Leh

After breakfast leave by jeep to visit Stok royal Palace, the present home of royal family of Ladakh and you can visit the most beautiful royal musuen for ancient ornaments, jewelleries, Crown of the King and the queen.SHEY- The ancient capital of Ladakh,17th century copper gold gilted statue of historical Buddha. THIKSEY, the most beautiful Gelukpa monastery and huge famous Future Buddha- The Lord Maitreya and HEMIS, The Drukpa monasteries located in the deep gorge.

Day 6 Leh – ( Nubra) via Khardungla Pass (125km 5/6 hrs)

Early morning proceed to Nubra Valley via the World Highest Motorable road (5602 Meters) -Khardungla pass. After crossing the pass stop at Khardung village to explore the area and visit to local school. Arrive Nubra and check in own camp. In the evening go for a small walk and explore the village.
Hunder Village: Hunder is a beautiful village to stay with lot of trees and you will really enjoy your stay at Hunder. It has a small monastery and ruined fort above the village. The walk or Camel Safari (Double Hump Bactrian camels) from Hunder to Diskit, through sand dunes for two hours is wonderful.

Overnight in camp in Nubra.

Day 07 Nubra -Sumur - Panamik –Diskit

Morning after breakfast, drive to Village Sumur Visit the Samtanling monastery to witness the prayer to witness the prayers. Later drive to Panamik – famous for hot Sulphur Springs. You may take a bath at the springs, which is said to be very good for the skin lunch at the camp. Post lunch visit Diskit monastery and the village.

Day 08 Nubra-Leh

After Breakfast walk to the sand dunes and do the camel ride to Disket. This ride is quite enjoyable and one of its kind as one can find the double hump Bactrian camel in Nubra or in Central Asia only. Later drive back to Leh via Khardungla pass the World Highest Motorable road. Evening explore Leh bazaar for souvenir, visit Leh Jokhang or Leh Mosque by foot. (Camel ride charge is not included).

Day 09 In Leh

Morning we will be doing short sight seeing around upper Leh. Shanti Stupa, built by Japanese master in 1995, from here we can have the panaromic views of Leh and surrounding areas of Indus valley. Sankar Gonap is a small Gelugpa Buddhist monastery at upper Leh and it is the monastery of Head lama of Ladakh. Namgyal Tsemo or the Victory peaks as it is called is on the top of the Leh and it was a ancient Casstle of Ladakh King dRakpa Bumde and Lehche Spakar or the Leh Palace is in nine storey built in 17th century by Ladakhi famous King Senge Namgyal. Now it is taken care by the Archeological Survey of India.

Day 10 Leh- Uleytokpo

Morning we drive to Uleytokpo camp which is 85km from Leh will take 2 hrs on the way photo stop at Zanskar and Indus river confluence side and visit the Alchi monastery it is famous for the paintings built by the translator Rinchen zangpo, hot Lunch in Alchi after the lunch we drive to Uley camp.

Dinner and overnight in fixed camp.

Day 11 Lamayuru/Rizdong/Ule

We drive to Lamayuru monastery which is the oldest monastery in Ladakh and famous for its landscape, more than 1000 years back the great Tibetan master Naropa had visited this place and meditate at this place and you can visit the cave also, hot lunch in the monastery hotel and drive back to ule on the way visit Rizdong monastery which is belong to Geluk pa sect and visit the nunnery.

Dinner and overnight in Camp.

Day 12 Ule-Leh Via Likir

Morning drive back to Leh via Likir monastery which was founded in 11 century the monastery belongs to the yellow head of Tibetan Buddhism.

Overnight at hotel.

Day 13 Leh-Tsomoriri (240 kms 6/7 hrs)

Full day excursion around lake and Karzok Monastery which belongs to the yellow sect. Tsomoriri or "Mountain Lake" is situated in the middle of the elevated valley of Rupshu surrounded by 6000 M peaks which completely shut the lake in. This Valley is inhabited by a small scattered population of "Changepas" nomadic shepherds who also engage in trade and work the Caravans in Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti the area is rich in wildlife including the "Kyang" (Wild Ass) red fox and the rare highly endangered snow Leopard. Black Necked cranes and Geese flock to the lakeside for breedling during the summer months. Also visit the 350 years old Karzok Monastery which has about 33 resident monks.

Day 14 Tso moriri - Tsokar (55 Kms 2/3 hrs ).

Morning drive Tsokar by covering 55 kms northwest from the Tsomoriri Lake is situated at the height of 4485 M It is also called "While Lake" because of salt deposit around it. Since these are all drainage basins with no outlet their water is blackish. That of the Tsokar is so salty that salt is procured from its margins and was sold all over Ladakh and Kashmir Until a few years ago by the Rupshu Chang. Tsokar is partly fed by a channel from a smaller fresh water lake. All the lakes are breeding grounds for a variety of birds among them the bar-headed Goose, the great crested Grebe, the Brahmin Duck and the Brown Headed Gull.

Day 15 Tsokar/Leh (130kms 4/5 hrs)

Morning drive to Leh via Thukje Gompa. Join Manali-Leh highway and drive down to Leh via Tanglang-la (5324 mt.) the 2nd highest motorable road in Ladakh. Enroute drive pass beautiful villages of Rumtse, Gia, Meeru.

Arrive Leh and check into hotel for overnight at hotel.

Day 16 Leh-Delhi

In time pick up from hotel to connect flight for Delhi. On arrival connect flight for onward destination.
